Description (eCommerce)
Transcription factor A, mitochondrial (TFAM) binds to the mitochondrial light strand promoter and functions in mitochondrial transcriptional regulation. TFAM is required for accurate and efficient promoter recognition by the mitochondrial RNA polymerase and promotes transcription initiation from the HSP1 and the light strand promoter by binding immediately upstream of transcriptional start sites. TFMA is required for maintenance of normal levels of mitochondrial DNA and may play a role in organizing and compacting mitochondrial DNA [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) www.uniprot.org/uniprot/ Q00059].
Description (Vector)
TFAM encodes a key mitochondrial transcription factor containing two high mobility group motifs. The encoded protein also functions in mitochondrial DNA replication and repair. Sequence polymorphisms in this gene are associated with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. There are pseudogenes for this gene on chromosomes 6, 7, and 11. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.

About Storage Conditions

All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity. We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
