Scaffold attachment factor B1 (SAFB1) is a chromatin associated protein that interacts with DNA elements termed S/MARs (scaffold or matrix attachment regions) but is not part of the nuclear matrix. SAFB1 is ubiquitously expressed and appears to be a multifunctional protein involved in chromatin organization, mRNA processing and transcriptional regulation. SAFB1 has been demonstrated to interact with and function as a corepressor with many nuclear receptors such as estrogen receptor-alpha, PPAR-gamma, and FXR-alpha.
Description (Vector)
SAFB encodes a DNA-binding protein which has high specificity for scaffold or matrix attachment region DNA elements (S/MAR DNA). This protein is thought to be involved in attaching the base of chromatin loops to the nuclear matrix but there is conflicting evidence as to whether this protein is a component of chromatin or a nuclear matrix protein. Scaffold attachment factors are a specific subset of nuclear matrix proteins (NMP) that specifically bind to S/MAR. The encoded protein is thought to serve as a molecular base to assemble a 'transcriptosome complex' in the vicinity of actively transcribed genes. It is involved in the regulation of heat shock protein 27 transcription, can act as an estrogen receptor co-repressor and is a candidate for breast tumorigenesis. SAFB is arranged head-to-head with a similar gene whose product has the same functions. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

About Storage Conditions

All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity. We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
