A distant member of the MAP kinase family, designated c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK1), is activated by dual phosphorylation at a Thr-Pro-Tyr motif (as compared to the Thr-Glu-Tyr phosphorylation motif characteristic of MAP kinases) during response to ultraviolet (UV) light. JNK1 functions to phosphorylate c-Jun at N-terminal serine regulatory sites, Ser-63 and Ser-73, mapping within the transactivation domain. Phosphorylation of these sites in response to UV results in transcriptional activation of c-Jun. Two additional members of the JNK family, JNK2 (also designated p54(alpha), MAPK9) and JNK3 (also designated p54(beta)), were described in a study in which an independent isolate of JNK1 was designated p54(gamma). These proteins are designated stress-activated protein kinases, or SAPKs. This is JNK2 alpha-2 isoform.

Description (Vector)
MAPK9 is a member of the MAP kinase family. MAP kinases act as an integration point for multiple biochemical signals, and are involved in a wide variety of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation and development. This kinase targets specific transcription factors, and thus mediates immediate-early gene expression in response to various cell stimuli. It is most closely related to MAPK8, both of which are involved in UV radiation induced apoptosis, thought to be related to the cytochrome c-mediated cell death pathway. This gene and MAPK8 are also known as c-Jun N-terminal kinases. This kinase blocks the ubiquitination of tumor suppressor p53, and thus it increases the stability of p53 in nonstressed cells. Studies of this gene's mouse counterpart suggest a key role in T-cell differentiation. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.

About Storage Conditions

All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity. We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
