Description (eCommerce)
SMG7 plays a role in the dephosphorylation of UPF1, an RNA-dependent ATPase and helicase critical to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD). It is a homolog of the C. elegans NMD factor Smg7 (suppressor with morphogenetic effect on genitalia protein 7). SMG7 functions as an adaptor to target protein phosphatase 2A to UPF1 for dephosphorylation of UPF1.
Description (Vector)
SMG7 encodes a protein that is essential for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD); a process whereby transcripts with premature termination codons are targeted for rapid degradation by a mRNA decay complex. The mRNA decay complex consists, in part, of this protein along with proteins SMG5 and UPF1. The N-terminal domain of this protein is thought to mediate its association with SMG5 or UPF1 while the C-terminal domain interacts with the mRNA decay complex. This protein may therefore couple changes in UPF1 phosphorylation state to the degradation of NMD-candidate transcripts. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.

About Storage Conditions
All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity.
We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
