Gene Reference Data

Alternate Names
epididymis secretory sperm binding protein; GAN1; gigaxonin; kelch-like family member 16; kelch-like protein 16; KLHL16
Description (eCommerce)
Gigaxonin is a probable cytoskeletal component that directly or indirectly plays an important role in neurofilament architecture. It is also a substrate-specific adapter of an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex which mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins such as TBCB, MAP1B, and MAP1S and is critical for neuronal maintenance and survival [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) www.uniprot.org/uniprot/ Q9H2C0].
Description (Vector)
GAN encodes a member of the cytoskeletal BTB/kelch (Broad-Complex, Tramtrack and Bric a brac) repeat family. The encoded protein plays a role in neurofilament architecture and is involved in mediating the ubiquitination and degradation of some proteins. Defects in this gene are a cause of giant axonal neuropathy (GAN).

About Storage Conditions

All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity. We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
