Description (eCommerce)
CBX5 (chromobox protein homolog 5), also known as HP1 (heterochromatin protein 1 homolog alpha), is one of 3 isoforms of HP1 that binds heterochromatin and functions as a structural adaptor to stabilize and organize macromolecular complexes with nucleosomes for higher chromatin structure. All of the HP1 isoforms possess a chromodomain and chromoshadow domain and associate with methylated histones that mediate transcriptional repression.
Description (Vector)
CBX5 encodes a highly conserved nonhistone protein, which is a member of the heterochromatin protein family. The protein is enriched in the heterochromatin and associated with centromeres. The protein has a single N-terminal chromodomain which can bind to histone proteins via methylated lysine residues, and a C-terminal chromo shadow-domain (CSD) which is responsible for the homodimerization and interaction with a number of chromatin-associated nonhistone proteins. The encoded product is involved in the formation of functional kinetochore through interaction with essential kinetochore proteins. The gene has a pseudogene located on chromosome 3. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified.

About Storage Conditions
All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity.
We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
