RENT1, also known as UPF1, is a key regulator of the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) pathway. The NMD pathway eliminates mRNAs that prematurely terminate during translation and may serve to protect the cells from dominant-negative effects of truncated proteins, or as a means to regulate protein expression. RENT1 is an ATP-dependent 5’- 3’ RNA helicase and ATPase that localizes to the cytoplasm and is part of a post-splicing multiprotein complex as well as an mRNA decay complex.
Description (Vector)
UPF1 encodes a protein that is part of a post-splicing multiprotein complex involved in both mRNA nuclear export and mRNA surveillance. mRNA surveillance detects exported mRNAs with truncated open reading frames and initiates nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD). When translation ends upstream from the last exon-exon junction, this triggers NMD to degrade mRNAs containing premature stop codons. This protein is located only in the cytoplasm. When translation ends, it interacts with the protein that is a functional homolog of yeast Upf2p to trigger mRNA decapping. Use of multiple polyadenylation sites has been noted for this gene.

About Storage Conditions
All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity.
We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
