Periplakin is a protein that localizes to the desmosomes and interdesomosomal plasma membrane of keratinocytes in the cornified layer of the epidermis. Periplakin belongs to the plakin family of cytolinker proteins that function as a link between cytoskeletal networks and membrane-associated adhesive sites. Periplakin has been reported to interact with AKT1/PKB and may function in facilitating AKT1/PKB signaling.
Description (Vector)
PPL is a component of desmosomes and of the epidermal cornified envelope in keratinocytes. The N-terminal domain of this protein interacts with the plasma membrane and its C-terminus interacts with intermediate filaments. Through its rod domain, this protein forms complexes with envoplakin. This protein may serve as a link between the cornified envelope and desmosomes as well as intermediate filaments. AKT1/PKB, a protein kinase mediating a variety of cell growth and survival signaling processes, is reported to interact with this protein, suggesting a possible role for this protein as a localization signal in AKT1-mediated signaling.

About Storage Conditions

All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity. We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt.
