Inflammation results in a rapid increase in blood levels of acute phase proteins synthesized by hepatocytes in response to cytokines. Pentraxins, which include C reactive protein (CRP) and serum amyloid P component (SAP), are prototypic acute phase proteins. CRP and SAP are produced by liver epithelial cells and are characterized by a cyclic pentameric structure and calcium-dependent ligand binding. Human serum amyloid A (SAA) is also a major acute-phase protein and precursor to amyloid A protein (AA), which is the major constituent of the fibril deposits of reactive amyloidosis.

SAA1 encodes a member of the serum amyloid A family of apolipoproteins. The encoded protein is a major acute phase protein that is highly expressed in response to inflammation and tissue injury. This protein also plays an important role in HDL metabolism and cholesterol homeostasis. High levels of this protein are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases including atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer's disease and Crohn's disease. This protein may also be a potential biomarker for certain tumors. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode the same protein. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 11.

About Storage Conditions

All our viral products should be kept at -80°C. At this temperature, the virus will remain stable for 6-12 months (and in some cases, up to 2 years). Once thawed, the product can be stored at 4°C for 2-3 weeks without significant loss of biological activity. We recommend aliquoting your vectors into low protein binding tubes upon receipt. This helps avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as well as prevent loss of virus. To maintain accurate titer, aliquot in at least 20ul per tube.
